Cup Finals throughout the years have thrown up many heroes. From Dick Pym the Bolton Wanderers keeper in 1923 to Eric Cantona who secured the 'double' for Manchester United in 1996.

Each is classified as a hero by their team mates and/or their team's supporters. Who was the real hero of the 1953 final was it Stanley Matthews or was it really Stan Mortensen who actually scored a hat trick to secure the cup for Blackpool? Peter McParland won the Cup Final by scoring twice for Aston Villa in 1957, but prior to that he had 'collided' with the Manchester United goalkeeper Ray Wood, effectively ruling him out of the match. Peter McParland - Hero or Villain??

The hero does not always finish on the winning side, ask the famous Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Sam Bartram!
