 MATCH REPORT

Bolton reversed the 1904 result, in the first Final to be played under the new offside law, and it was the great David Jack who did the trick again. With less than fifteen minutes left, Vizard's low centre from the left gave Jack the chance to send a shot hurtling into the roof of the net.

Pym, the Devon fisherman in Bolton's goal, performed miracles at the other end as Manchester fought desperately to save their necks. But Bolton were quicker on the ball in the first quarter of an hour, and looked the better side as they got within shooting range several times, mainly through the effectiveness of the left‑wing pair Smith and Vizard. Then City rallied to test Pyrn, playing at the top of his form.

David Jack Scores The Winning Bolton Goal

Immediately after half‑time, Vizard tricked his way through the City ranks, slipped the ball through to Smith Q. R.), and the latter powered in a shot against the keeper's body.

Bolton's half‑back line now began to dominate the game, and only inaccurate finishing prevented them from scoring on a number of occasions.

At Burnden Park, meanwhile, 10,000 spectators at a Central League fixture against Huddersfield went wild when they heard the Marconiphone announcement that Jack had scored at Wembley.
